Lending a Helping Hand to Local Charities
MIREHAVEN GIVES BACK (MGB) is one of the many interest groups within our community.
Our name reflects the desire to give back to those less fortunate by supporting a local charity each year that has been selected by our residents. Since 2017, more than $260,000 has been donated.
Only once a year, on DONATE DAY, do we straight out ask for a financial donation. Otherwise, we generate funds by sponsoring fun activities and charging a fee to participate, such as a fashion show, bingo nights, a garden tour, dinner events, and musical concerts. We also have generated donations through events such as a community garage sale, and an auction of donated items.
Our fundraising efforts run throughout the year, culminating in a Gala Event each September when we present our donation to that year's Charity-of-Choice.
How MGB Functions
Mirehaven Gives Back (MGB) is an IRS 501(c)3 tax-exempt organization established and operated by residents of Del Webb Mirehaven (DWM). The purpose of MGB is to raise money to benefit other New Mexico 501(c)3 nonprofits. Each year, residents vote to select a local charitable organization to be the beneficiary of the fundraising efforts for the year. Except for expenses related to fundraising, all monies collected by MGB go to the nonprofit(s).
Each January, our Mirehaven residents are asked to submit nominations of local charities to be considered. The MGB Board carefully vets all nominations and, using a point-based analysis, selects the top three nonprofits for the community to vote on. The charity with the most votes will be named the recipient. By late January/early February, the Charity-of-Choice is announced to the community.
